Finding our “why” allows us to live a life that matters…a life that is in alignment and connected with our core values …values that are uniquely our own and guide and direct the decisions we make every day.
How do we get this clarity on what matters most and have more of what we want and less of what we don’t want? Grab pen and paper or a journal and let’s begin. I'll show you how.
To begin, here are a few questions to contemplate. Take some quiet time to consider and then gather your thoughts on each of them. Write down the question and capture your thoughts. This simple process will help you to begin and refine the process of discovering your core values that guide your choices and decisions every day.
Begin by asking yourself:
What matters most?
How do I want my life to be?
What relationships, interests, activities and things do I want to give my time and attention to?
What are my gifts, my skills?
What brings me joy?
What is fun for me?
What gives me peace of mind and heart?
When do I feel most alive, well and happy?
Discovering our why – our aspirations, what matters most begins with getting clarity around the values that guide the choices and decisions that we make in any moment. Decisions and choices become much easier when we have this clarity. Our values guide us to live the life that we want…doing more of what we want and less of what we don’t want? Our life then becomes a reflection of the values that we hold most dear.
Here are a few more suggestions for getting clarity on your “why” what matters most:
At the end of each day take a few moments to reflect on the events and activities of the day. If you were to describe how you spent this day to an outsider, would how you spent this day give a clear picture of what matters most to you – of what you value most?
At the end of each day, as your head hits the pillow, reflect on what you experienced that you are most grateful for?
Or, at the start of a new day begin by asking, how can I make this a great day – one that is meaningful for me?
